Flakey skin on puppy
on: October 25, 2009, 20:36

Hi Guys,

My puppy is currently being fed Pro Plan (weaning off it using chicken necks and vegie mix) as we’re chew toy training him.

For the last few days I’ve noticed his skin is kind of flakey, and he scratches at his tummy a bit – but there is no rash or anything.

I’ve heard apple cider vinegar is good for coats – do you have any suggestions??

THANKS!

Kiama NSW.

Hi Harper Lab,

We’ve found great success with Evening Primrose Oil capsules (advised by allergy expert at Sydney Uni Farm), boosted by Fish Oil which aids the immune system.

One of our dogs suffered severely from many allergies and used to break out in huge hives. He also had pancreatitis. Eating only a RAW diet -NO processed dry or tin food of ANY kind- and these supplements, he has improved out of sight.

He never suffers from any skin problems (or abdominal problems) and only the occassional hay fever symptoms for one or two weeks in spring, which, if severe enough, are treated with antihistamines.

Evening Primrose Oil: Used for skin conditions such as eczema.
Fish Oil : Omega 3, Anti Inflammatory, Used in skin Disorders, Cares for Joints, General Well Being.
Apple Cider Vinegar: Allergies, Hot Spots, Runny Eyes & Nose, Flea Rinse. Please use carefully-research how to use for the condition you are treating, most are topical.

Hope this helps. If anyone else has any advise, please chip in.

Thanks, Vicki, that’s a great help!

I left it a few days thinking it might have been wet grass irritating him, but he’s still itching, even inside, and just as flaky as ever! I’ll do some reading on which supplements to ad.

Thanks again!
